Meet Pacioli, Sage Intacct’s Foray Into AI

The AI boom is upon us! It seems like everyone is taking a stab at implementing some sort of Intelligence system to make their work or personal life a little easier. Sage Intacct is no different in this regard. In steps Pacioli. The upcoming AI for the Intacct platform could give your business a leg up on the competition, pointing out flaws you may not have caught for weeks. But first a history lesson.

Who is Pacioli

This is a great one to keep in the back of your brain for quiz night. Pacioli, whose first name was Luca, was an Italian mathematician, a friend of Leonardo da Vinci, a friar, and most famously known as the father of accounting and bookkeeping. In 1494 he introduced the methods the Venetian merchants had used to keep track of their financials which is now known as the double-entry accounting system. The man was quite possibly the first famous accountant. So, it seems only fitting that Sage Intacct, one of the world leaders in accounting software would name their AI after one of the first world leaders in accounting.

The Scope

At its infant stage (currently in development and prototype) Pacioli has one major function. Machine learning (which you can learn about in our other blog). As you go about your day, performing your usual tasks, Pacioli is listening and recording your steps in the background. One day you need a bit of information, say an invoice number for a client. You pull up Pacioli and ask for the number and he gives it to you almost instantly. It’s all about making information accessible faster and easier so you can get along with your workday without long interruptions.

The Impact

Saving time is a given but what if you could mitigate mistakes? What if you could be notified of an error you are making before you make it? With modern machine learning and the “background listening” you could be prompted to change something if it is out of the norm.

Say you fill in the same forms every day, the same way, every time. One day you skip a filed that could cost you time to go back and fix later. Now Pacioli could nudge you before you hit submit and ask you if you meant to leave the field blank. It’s changes like this, though as small as they may seem, that can make a world of difference in streamlining how you work.
